Ippensen Posts Career-High 16 Points in Chargers’ Loss to MATC

Lane Ippensen (LaPrairie, Ill./Camp Point Central) notched a career-high in points for the second straight game, but Milwaukee Area Tech had a scorching shooting night to hand the Chargers a 120-86 loss Monday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- MATC (6-3) opened up a 17-4 lead to start the game and shot 56 percent in the first half to have a 56-37 advantage at intermission.
- A Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) three-point play followed by a free throw from Brock Bower-Preece (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs) pulled the Chargers (1-4) to within 65-51 less than 4 minutes into the second half, but the Stormers scored 12 of the next 14 to extend their lead again.
- MATC finished 54 percent from the field, 52 percent from 3-point range and 94 percent from the free-throw line.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Ippensen, coming off a 13-point night the Chargers’ last time out, scored a career-best 16 while going 7 of 10 from the field. The sophomore forward added six rebounds and two assists.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
- Wilson, fresh of a career-best 33-point outing Friday at Highland, led all players with 27 points on 9-for-17 shooting. Wilson also led Sandburg with eight rebounds and had a team-leading two steals.
- Sophomore Vaughn Toyne (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) and freshman Gabe Mason (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) each scored 14.
